HIKING: Landsford Canal State Park

← SC USGS RAINGAGE MCBEE SC Triple Blaze →

Description

There is much to see and do at Landsford Canal State Park. The most popular hike is the Canal Trail, which is 1.25 miles one way. This trail will take you along the well-preserved structures of the old navigation locks on the Catawba River.
The Nature Trail, just 0.5 miles one way, will take you to a viewing platform where one of the largest known stands of Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies can be viewed. These lilies come into full bloom around mid-May, and stay in bloom until about mid-June. The stands of lilies literally blanket the river in white blooms. A spectacular site.
The Eagle Point Trail, only 0.25 miles one way, ends at a bluff overlooking the Catawba River where both British and American soldiers crossed during the revolutionary war.
For paddlers, 7.4 miles of the Catawba River Trail can be enjoyed starting at the park. SC route 9 landing will be your take-out downriver.
All trails, including the canoe trail, start near the picnic area at Landsford Canal State Park.
